Is SEO Dying??

by Abid Mujtaba

Okay, let’s talk about something that’s been bugging me for a while. If you’re into digital marketing or just scrolling LinkedIn these days, you’ve probably seen this hot question pop up: “Is SEO actually dying?”

Honestly? Not a hard yes. But also, not the same SEO our ancestors used to swear by. It’s changing. Fast.

Remember when Google was the king of everything?

Back when I was doing my BBA assignments and building side projects, if you needed to find anything — you Googled it.

If you were running a business, your goal was simple: get on the first page of Google. That’s how your restaurant, retail shop, or startup got noticed. I’m talking about stuff like:

  • “Best restaurant software in Dhaka”
  • “Affordable POS system Bangladesh”
  • “How to manage supply chain efficiently”

If your site had good SEO — you’d get the clicks, the leads, and the money.

But today? That first-page dream is fading. And not because you’re doing it wrong.

AI changed the game without asking us

Nowadays, people are not really “Googling” the way they used to.

They’re chatting with ChatGPT.

They’re asking Gemini.

Even my non-techy friends are using AI to get answers directly.

And Google — oh the irony — is pushing AI Overviews on top of search results. Like, the platform that made SEO a thing is now skipping our blogs and showing its own AI answer first.

Search something now. See for yourself. You’ll probably get:

  • A summarized answer
  • No clicks needed
  • No visit to your blog
  • And yeah, no lead for your business either

What’s wilder is that Google now displays an AI Overview for nearly every search, no matter how specific. This means even your hyper-optimized content is often being bypassed by a machine-generated summary.

It’s like Google built the SEO staircase and now pulled it up right when we were halfway there.

Feels like SEO’s funeral… or maybe its rebirth?

Honestly, it feels a little unfair. You build content, optimize like crazy, and then AI just grabs the best bits, spits it out, and keeps the user from ever landing on your page.

But here’s the thing:

SEO isn’t dying. It’s becoming something else

You don’t just need to rank now. You need to be trusted by AI models. You need to be cited. You need to show up in conversations — not just search results.

The rules have changed. And it’s time we learn the new playbook.
